House goes into recess
JAKARTA: The House of Representatives (DPR) closed its first
sitting session on Friday, without accomplishing anything in the
field of legislation.
The legislators, who were sworn in on Oct. 1, will make
regional visits during the recess and are scheduled to open the
second session on Jan. 9, 2005.
In his closing speech, House Speaker Agung Laksono suggested
that legislators, especially members of the legislation body
(Baleg), continue discussing high-priority bills.
Separately, the House team tasked with monitoring the state of
civil emergency in Aceh has appointed Soetardjo Soerjogoeritno of
the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) as its
chairman.
The monitoring team will make monthly reports on the situation
in Aceh for the next six months. -- JP
