House factions work on TNI bill

JAKARTA: After receiving input from experts, the factions in the House of Representatives will outline on Friday their proposals for the deliberation of the Indonesian Military (TNI) bill.

House Commission I for defense affairs will discuss the proposals from the factions before its first meeting with the government on Aug. 24.

President Megawati Soekarnoputri has appointed interim coordinating minister for political and security affairs Hari Sabarno, defense minister Matori Abdul Djalil and TNI chief Gen. Endriartono Sutarto to represent the government in the deliberations.

It is not known who will speak on behalf of Matori, who has been hospitalized since August 2002 after suffering a stroke. -- JP
