Hotel workers strike for GM

TUBAN, Bali: Some 326 employees of the Patra Jasa-Bali resort hotel went on strike on Tuesday morning, protesting the replacement of their general manager, Jasa Purba.

The employees expressed their support for Jasa Purba, describing him as a good leader and persistent in eradicating collusion, corruption and nepotism within the hotel.

Purba has been replaced by Sukiman, who previously worked as general manager of the Patra Jasa-Anyer in West Java.

This is not the first time the hotel's employees have expressed their opposition to Purba's replacement. On May 24 they succeeded in postponing the handover from Purba to Sukiman.

Due to Tuesday's strike about 100 guests staying at the hotel had to be transferred to nearby hotels for breakfast.

"There were no complaints from the guests as they understood the employees' demands," claimed Ade Roswita, Patra Jasa public relations and sales manager.

Plans were also made to move guests to other hotels later in the day, despite the fact that several persisted in staying. (zen/10)
