Hotel workers reject transfer

BOGOR: Five former employees of the Safari Garden Hotel angry over being transferred from the hotel to Taman Safari Indonesia took their complaint to the city council on Thursday.

Dadang, who had been a room attendant at the hotel for 14 years, said the hotel management failed to provide a reason for the transfer. He also said the five transferred employees were the cofounders of the Reform Tourism Union at the hotel.

"We do not even know what our new positions will be (at Taman Safari), but they will definitely not be what we are trained for," Dadang said.

The transfer to Taman Safari, which is under the same management as the hotel, was made in April.

The head of Reform Tourism Union in Bogor, Noval Rizal, said the hotel management had long prohibited the establishment of a union at the hotel.

The secretary of Bogor Council's Commission D overseeing public welfare, Arief Munandar, said councillors would meet with executives from the hotel to look into the matter. -- JP
