Hotel room rates up by 5-15 percents

JAKARTA: Jakarta's hotels have increased room rates by up to 15 percent, following the government's decision to increase fuel prices, electricity rates and the regional minimum wage.

"Actually, we don't really want to increase the room rates due to the sluggish market," Jakarta International Hotel Association spokeswoman Indah Aryani said Wednesday.

She said the hotels had increased not only the room rates, but also the rental fees for function rooms as well as the prices of food and beverages.

Some hotels generated up to 50 percent of their revenue from the function rooms, cafes and restaurants, she added.

Hotel Horison Ancol spokeswoman Nuraini Prapdanu said the hotel had increased its rates by between 5 and 10 percent at the beginning of the month.

Hotel Dusit Mangga Dua assistant manager Riyo Adi Wisaksono said it had increased room rates by 15 percent. --Antara
