Hotel Kristal donates Rp 6.6m

JAKARTA (JP): Hotel Kristal in South Jakarta will donate Rp 6.6 million it raised during a one-day charity golf tournament on Sept. 15 to the Nurul Amin orphanage in Cinere, West Java.

Hotel spokeswoman Mona Monica told The Jakarta Post on Monday the donation would go toward renovating the orphanage.

"The Rp 6.6 million donation came from funds collected from betting on charity holes. We also received US$2,800 by auctioning an Adams golf club. We are planning to hand over the donation on Tuesday," Mona said. The money raised by auctioning the golf club will not go to the orphanage.

The one-day tournament was participated in by about 120 golfers, both foreigners and Indonesians.

Mona said the hotel wanted to do something different by inviting guests to the golf course for a day of fun.

"We wanted to show our appreciation for the support of the golfers and the sponsors. Their reaction has been overwhelming," Mona said.

The major sponsors of the event were IFM Movewell and Jakarta Land Management, which manages Hotel Kristal.

The team of William Hendry, Jamie Perry, Wayne Eglinton and John Crawford took first in the tournament with an overall nine under par. Second place went to the team of Alistair Speirs, Herve Coefec and Terry Mills, which finished with an overall eight under par. (lnt)
