Hospital needs specialists

KUPANG, East Nusa Tenggara: The W.Z. Johannes Hospital, the status of which has just been elevated from a C-class to B-class hospital, needs 16 specialists, including a neurosurgeon.

The government stipulates that a B-class hospital must have at least 30 specialists. The Johannes Hospital currently has only 14 specialists and 16 general practitioners, including its director.

Dr. Husein Pancratius said that 10 of the GPs will be leaving the hospital shortly because their contracts have expired, Antara reported.

"It's the patients who will face difficulties because of the shortage of doctors," Husein said.

Hospitals are grouped into A, B, C and D categories; A-class hospitals are usually established in capitals of provinces. (swe)
