Honest reporting

After perusing a number of Jakarta newspapers, my great appreciation goes to The Jakarta Post. It is the only paper to have written on Aceh in a complete and honest way. Other newspapers only print press releases published by the military. We know from experience that such releases are biased.

The Post may think that its market segment is the expatriate community. However, I am convinced that with your balanced reporting, without your being aware, many members of the middle class in Indonesia are using your newspaper as their main reference. My colleagues and I in the office always read the Post when we want to read about Aceh.

I herewith propose that you launch a fund raiser to help people in the province. I believe that many readers -- both from the local and expatriate community -- have been touched by your reporting but they do not know how to express their feelings because there is no institution which has started a fund raiser. You can do this by cooperating with one of the non-governmental organizations or action units which support the Acehnese people.
