Homemade bomb explodes in Poso

A homemade bomb exploded in Poso city on Tuesday at 9:50 p.m. local time, or 8:50 p.m. Jakarta time, near the office of a campaign team for candidates running in the upcoming Poso regental elections.

No casualties were reported in the incident, the latest after the Tentena bombings in May where two bomb blasts killed 21 people, but the campaign team office of Piet Inkiriwang and A. Muthalib Rimi, who are backed by the Prosperous Peace Party, was slightly damaged in the incident.

According to deputy chief of Poso Police, Adj. Comr. Ricky Naldo, police personnel have been assigned to secure the area but could not yet identify those responsible for the bombing or provide details of the type of bomb used. -- JP
