Historical sites to be immortalized

JAKARTA: The tourism agency in cooperation with 100 artists from the Ancol Art Market are to capture well-known city landmarks and historical buildings on canvas.

The program, called "Jakarta on the Spot", is set to coincide with the city's official 477th anniversary, which falls on June 22. The paintings will be put on display next week in Plaza Indonesia, Central Jakarta, and be offered for sale to the public.

According to the tourism agency's head, Aurora Tambunan, the main subjects of the paintings will be the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle, Sunda Kelapa harbor, the old city in North Jakarta and a number of museums in the city. -- JP
