Hingis in polio push ahead of U.S. Open

JAKARTA (JP): In her role as World Health Organization (WHO) Goodwill Ambassador for polio eradication, world number one women's tennis player Martina Hingis of Switzerland will single- handedly take on four celebrity media doubles teams, one after the other.

Hingis will also be giving a special tennis clinic to 30 children, who each represent the remaining polio-endemic countries.

This event is part of Hingis' "Match Point Against Polio" campaign, which precedes the start of the U.S. Open tennis tournament on Aug. 30, according to a WHO media advisory.

Hingis is expected to speak to the media about the campaign, which will kick off on Saturday at the USTA National Tennis Center in Corona Park, Flushing, New York. (ivy)
