Highland Gathering makes donations

JAKARTA (JP): British Ambassador Robin Christopher is scheduled to present donations on behalf of the Highland Gathering to three nonprofit organizations at his residence on Jl. Teuku Umar, Central Jakarta, today.

Two of the three recipients are Rio Tinto Foundation and Suara Ibu Peduli (Voices of Concerned Mothers), while the third was not identified.

The British Embassy said in a statement yesterday that the Rio Tinto Foundation would give its donation to farmers and the needy in East Kalimantan. The Suara Ibu Peduli group will use its donation to provide milk powder to families of the low-income bracket.

The third group will use its donation to provide vitamin A to people of the Dani tribe in Jaya Wijaya regency, according to the embassy.

"The Highland Gathering, which is held every year in Jakarta, provides an opportunity for many people to enjoy themselves, but it is also an important event for raising funds to support the poor people," the embassy said. (hhr)
