This will be the comment expressed by Jakartans, maybe even all Indonesians, when the projected third highest tower in the world has been completed. According to the sponsors of the project, the tower will symbolize the success achieved by the New Order. It is said that the project costs Rp 1 trillion, a fantastic amount of money.

It is not surprising to hear some members of the House of Representatives comment that the funds could better be used to eradicate poverty.

I think the tower is not completely unnecessary. But is the construction of such a prestigious monument timely? Is there no project that will directly improve the lot of the poor?
