High-ranking police officers promoted

JAKARTA (JP): The National Police Headquarters announced on Tuesday the promotion of 10 high-ranking and 25 middle-ranking police officers at the headquarters.

"The promotion has a different meaning from previous promotions," National Police chief Gen. Rusdihardjo said in a media statement.

"Primarily because it's being done after the police's separation from the military and using the new rank terminology," he added.

National Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Dadang Garnida said three brigadier generals were promoted to inspector generals (formerly major generals).

The new inspector generals are Maman Sulaeman, an expert staff member of people's welfare affairs at the Office of the Coordinating Minister for Political Affairs and Security; Sumardi, the Police Academy governor; and James Daniel Sitorus, director of the Police Staff College (PTIK).

Seven senior superintendents (formerly known as colonels) were promoted to the rank of brigadier general.

They are Aceh Police chief Sumantyawan Hadidojo Sudarjo, director of the National Police public guidance unit Sutomo Tjokro Atmodjo, East Nusa Tenggara Police chief John Lalo, commander of the National Police Mobile Brigade Nurdin Usman, Riau Police chief Maman Supratman, National Police central forensics laboratory (Puslabfor) chief Erwin Mappaseng and PTIK deputy governor Adang Firman.

The National Police also announced the promotion of 25 superintendents (formerly known as lieutenant colonels) at the National Police Headquarters to senior superintendents.

Forty nine superintendents at the city police were also promoted to superintendents, Dadang said. (08)
