Hi-tech gates not working

JAKARTA: The organizing committee of the 2004 Thomas and Uber Cup championships pledged before the events to provide a high level of security by installing barcode readers and fingerprint scanners at the entrance gates.

The hi-tech security features caused long queues during the first days of the competitions.

Unfortunately, the organizers are not using the gates around the clock. On Saturday morning at around 11 a.m., two Post reporters walked through one of the gates with no security guards or police officers to be seen.

Meanwhile at around 2 p.m., the high-tech equipment was found to be out of order, forcing security officers to manually check ID cards before allowing cardholders to enter. -- ^YJP^Y
