Heritage Food clarifies
This is in response to the letter from Luciana Prawiro, Disappointed by food event, published in The Jakarta Post on Sept. 2.
Jalansutra and Sahabat Museum presented Heritage Food in Heritage City at the National Archive Building on Aug. 29, as a way of showing the colorful culinary and artistic heritage of Jakarta.
This one-day event was intended to give people the opportunity to appreciate the foods and culture that built Jakarta. These foods and arts have a long history and some are hard to find these days.
We were truly surprised by the enthusiasm shown by the visitors. Some came for the food, some came for the rarely seen art performances (Keroncong Tugu music, Tabla and Wayang Lenong Betawi puppet show). Many others came to enjoy both.
The number of people who came to our event far exceeded our expectations. Therefore, some hiccups occurred, especially in the ticketing and food supply. Nasi ulam, nasi uduk, es selendang mayang, gurame kuah pecak were the people's favorites, and sold out in a short time. We tried our best to replenish the supply, but there were shortages nonetheless.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience experienced by visitors in any aspects of the event. We would like to thank all visitors for coming, and for their comments and criticisms. We took all the comments and criticisms seriously, and will work harder and smarter in the future.
