Health books donated

SEMARANG, Central Java: Thousands of health books donated by the Japanese government have been distributed to all districts in the province and were expected to help maternal and child health development programs in the region, a local official said here yesterday.

Antara quoted Sri Astuti Suparmanto of the local health office as saying that Japan recently donated 303,000 books on maternal and child health care through the Japanese International Cooperation Agency and the United Nations Fund for Population Activities.

The books include 185,000 self-help books for mothers and children; 110,000 guidebooks for health officials; and 1,000 books on strategies to lower maternal death.

Japan also donated medical equipment, including 100 ambubags (respirators for babies who were born with breathing problems) and resuscitator bags. (swe)
