Health agency monitors bird flu

JAKARTA: The Jakarta Health Agency has distributed 10,000 leaflets about the symptoms and prevention of avian influenza to community health centers around the city.

Public relations head Evi Zelfino said the move, which aimed to inform medical staff of the virus, would allow the agency to track possible human cases of the flu.

No Jakarta residents were known to be infected by the flu virus at this time, she said.

The agency has distributed information to all 267 subdistrict- level community health centers, 42 district-level health centers in five municipalities and two district-level health centers in the Thousands Islands regency.

"This is a follow-up to the Ministry of Health's circulars on Jan. 14 and Jan. 23 that advise agencies to closely monitor the bird flu," she said in a story on the city's official website -- beritajakarta.com. -- JP
