Hasyim visits clerics in Lombok

MATARAM, West Nusa Tenggara: Nahdlatul Ulama chairman and election candidate Hasyim Muzadi visited some 20 clerics and ulemas on the West Nusa Tenggara island of Lombok on Thursday.

However, he denied his trip was aimed at seeking support for his nomination as the running mate of Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle's Megawati Soekarnoputri. He said he was invited by the local NU branch.

At the end of the meeting, however, Ahmad Jauzi, the deputy chairman of the NU branch's lawmaking body, asked all participants to pray for the Megawati-Hasyim pairing and support their bid in the July 5 election. --JP
