Harmoko proves his loyalty

KUPANG, East Nusa Tenggara: Despite his busy campaigning schedule, Golkar boss Harmoko has proven his faith to his wife is not fading.

When presenting a handkerchief to a would-be first time voter during a campaign here Saturday, he assured her it was no "love handkerchief".

"This is just a gift. If I give you a love handkerchief, I'm afraid my wife will be jealous," he said to the laughter of several thousand Golkar supporters.

The handkerchief was inside a yellow jacket he gave to Indra, a third grader of a Kupang senior high school, Antara reported yesterday.

Then Harmoko, who is also the Minister of Information, sang a local folk song titled Fragrant handkerchief.

"When the election day comes, don't forget to prick the center and don't bother with what's on your left or right," he said, referring to Golkar's position on the ballot paper. (pan)
