HACCP certificate for Gizindo

JAKARTA (JP): Child-foods producer PT Gizindo Prima Nusantara, a subsidiary of PT Indofood Sukses Makmur, has received the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) certificate from SGS International.

Indofood's chief executive officer (CEO) Eva Riyanti Hutapea received the certificate from SGS International's president Erik Roger here on Wednesday.

"Gizindo is not only the first child food products maker, but also the first food products maker in Indonesia to receive the HACCP and ISO 9001 certificates," Eva said in a statement.

HACCP is a system to identify and prevent specific hazards, including chemical hazards, microbiological hazards, and physical hazards in food production. The HACCP certificate is necessary for food producers to enter certain Western markets.

Gizindo's general manager Andy Setiadi said that aside from the HACCP, Gizindo had also received the ISO 9001 certificate from SGS International and two other ISO 9001 certificates from ANSI-RAB for the American market and from JAS-ANZ for the Australian and New Zealand markets.

Gizindo, which produces Promina, SUN and Vitdele among other brands, sold around 10,500 tons of food worth Rp 150 billion (US$20.2 million) in 1999.
