Habibie's doctor named as professor

JAKARTA (JP): Dr. Nurhay Abdurrahman, a female member of the presidential medical team, has been installed as a permanent professor at the Internal Disease Department at the University of Indonesia.

President B.J. Habibie and first lady Hasri Ainun Habibie, together with members from Habibie's inner circle including Jimly Assidiqie, were among those who attended Nurhay's inauguration ceremony on Wednesday at the university's Salemba campus in Central Jakarta.

Rector at the university, Prof. Asman Budisantosa, presided at the ceremony.

In her one-hour installment speech titled Coronary Heart Disease Problems for Today and Tomorrow, Nurhay told the audience that a different life style and changed eating patterns were major causes of coronary heart disease.

Stress-related work ailments were a common phenomenon in modern society, she said.

In several Asian cities, the number of people consuming high fat diets indicated a significant increase, she said without elaborating.

Nurhay suggested that people could prevent high-fat related health problems by consuming less cholesterol and by enjoying more relaxing activities such as playing sport.

She revealed a health pursuit of the President: Pak Habibie does a good thing for his health by swimming for one hour everyday".

According to Wiwiek Sugiono, a retired nurse at the Internal Disease department of the university, Nurhay was the first female student at the Medical Faculty of the university, attending from 1961 to 1966. (01)
