Habibie to open PWI congress

SEMARANG: President B.J. Habibie is scheduled to open the 20th
congress of the Association of Indonesian Journalists here on
Saturday.

Soegyarto, an organizer of the congress, said on Thursday that
Habibie would be accompanied in the two-day event by Minister of
Information Muhammad Yunus and Minister/State Secretary Akbar
Tanjung.

At least 380 association leaders are slated to attend to elect
new officers and seek ways to improve the organization's image.

Chairman Sofyan Lubis of Pos Kota, Parni Hadi of Republika,
Dahlan Iskan of Jawa Pos and Tarman Azzam will reportedly be
nominated for chairman. (har)
