Gusmao postpones NTT visit

KUPANG, East Nusa Tenggara: East Timorese President Xanana Gusmao decided to postpone his visit to Indonesia's East Nusa Tenggara province, Wirasakti District Military Command chief Moeswarno Moesanip said on Thursday.

"Gusmao postponeed the visit indefinitely but he loves his people. He does not discriminate against them based on their ideology or political preferences. To him, they are the same, East Timorese," Moeswarno said.

Gusmao was scheduled to visit the province by the end of this month to urge East Timorese refugees staying in camps in West Timor to return to their homeland.

Currently, some 35,000 East Timorese refugees consisting of civilians, former members of Indonesian military and police, and former civil servants, are still in refugee camps in West Timor. --Antara
