Gus Dur to tour Central Java

SEMARANG: President Abdurrahman Wahid is slated to make a two- day visit on Friday and Saturday to several regencies in Central Java, provincial spokesman R.B. Sutrisno said on Wednesday.

During his trip to Demak, Semarang, Grobogan, Pekalongan and Brebes, the President, popularly known as Gus Dur, and First Lady Sinta Nuriyah will hold talks with community leaders and ulemas.

Abdurrahman will join a Friday prayer in Demak Grand Mosque before heading to Giri Kusumo Islamic boarding school in the town to witness Tawajuhan Akbar and Mujahadah Kubro religious processions.

Abdurrahman will also visit the grave of Ki Ganjur, a respected cleric from Central Java, in Ngroto village in Grobogan.

The President will open thread factory PT Pisma Putra Textile in Pekalongan on Saturday and later move on to Brebes to attend the ground-breaking ceremony of Abdi Bumiayu University and a Koran recital at Al-Hikmah Islamic Boarding School. (har/edt)
