Gus Dur rushed to hospital
JAKARTA (JP): Abdurrahman Wahid, chairman of the 30-million strong Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), was rushed to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital here for suspected stroke last night, his relatives said.
Gus Dur, as the 57 year-old man is better known, was still unconscious at 00.50 a.m. At midnight, he was moved from the Intensive Care Unit to the surgery unit, hospital sources said.
Doctors were not available for comment.
His younger brother, Hashim Wahid said, Gus Dur fainted in a bathroom at NU headquarters at about 10 p.m. yesterday, a few hours after he addressed a breaking-of the fast gathering at Media Indonesia office.
Sahaluddin Wahid, Gus Dur's other brother, said that Hashim forcibly opened the bathroom door and found Gus Dur unconscious.
His relatives said Gus Dur has been suffering diabetes and is lack of discipline in diet control.
When addressing a gathering in Bandung last Sunday, Gus Dur predicted the current economic turmoil would last long. (team)
