Gus Dur, Cak Nur to appear in House
JAKARTA: The House of Representatives will next week hear the
views of more public figures to enrich the discussion on the
truth and reconciliation commission bill.
Muslim scholar Nurcholish Madjid, former president Abdurrahman
Wahid, former transmigration minister Siswono Yudohusodo, and
senior journalist Jakob Oetama are expected to appear at the
House on Monday.
Former military chief Gen. (ret) Wiranto, former ambassador to
the United States Lt. Gen. (ret) Hasnan Habib, and former Jakarta
Governor Ali Sadikin are expected to attend on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, the legislators will hear the views of family
members of the victims of some violent incidents involving the
state, including the Trisakti and Semanggi bloodbaths.
Sidharto Danusubroto, chairman of the House committee
deliberating the bill, stressed that his team was attempting to
create a good law to help ensure reconciliation.
He promised that the team would have finished the deliberation
of the bill before the end of the legislature's tenure in
September next year. - JP
