As a foreigner, I'm very pleased at having Abdurrahman Wahid elected chairman of NU for the next term.

Abdurrahman Wahid represents, for me, a Moslem intellectual trying to narrow the gap between Islamic culture and western culture. He is a brand new type of Indonesian Moslem who accepts believers of other religions as his equals.

Thank you to Abdurrahman Wahid for trying to help Westerners understand Islam.
