Guesswhat? Martha Tilaar

September is a special month for traditional cosmetics businesswoman Martha Tilaar, who celebrated her 63rd birthday on Sept. 4. This year, she got a few unexpected birthday gifts.

On her birthday, the Ministry of Health delivered an award for her company's accomplishments while her husband, education expert H.A.R. Tilaar, organized a discussion of his book, Paradigma Baru Pendidikan Nasional (New Paradigm of National Education).

"I'm happy. There have been many positive responses from other experts about my husband's views expressed in the book," said Martha, who recently met United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan as a businesswoman concerned about the environment.

Apart from receiving gifts for her birthday, Martha also gave something. At the book discussion, she announced that she would give university scholarships to 70 bright students. (Tuti Gintini)
