Guess What? Wiranto
Former Indonesian military chief Gen. (ret.) Wiranto, who is linked to mass violence in East Timor last year, plans to record a pop album and give proceeds to the victims of bloodshed in his troubled country.
Wiranto's debut album, For You My Indonesia, will consist of 10 all-time Indonesian sentimental songs, hand-picked by the former coordinating minister for political affairs and security, who was sacked from cabinet this year -- a few months after losing his job as military chief. The album is scheduled to be launched on Sunday's evening at the Shangri-La Jakarta.
Born on July 7, 1947 in Yogyakarta, Wiranto's career has skyrocketed after serving as Soeharto's adjutant from 1989 through 1993.
The graduate of the National Military Academy in Magelang in 1968 was the Jakarta military commander from 1993 to 1996 before being promoted commander of the Army's strategic reserve command. He was promoted Army chief in 1997 and promoted to Armed Forces commander in 1998. (Reuters)
