Guess What? Marina Mahathir

Marina Mahathir flew into town last Sunday with her husband,
Indonesian professional photographer, Tara Sosrowardoyo.

The couple tied the knot on June 7 at Sri Perdana, the
official residence of her prime minister father Mahathir Mohamad
and were to enjoy their holiday until Friday. The couple happily
mingled with friends, including playwright Jajang C. Noer and
photographer Firman Ichsan, at Tuesday's opening of a photo
exhibition of Mexican women photographers.

Tara enjoyed the photographs but his wife, who was elected
chairwoman of the Malaysian AIDS Council in 1994, was nonchalant
about them.

"I guess I'm not really an expert on photography," she said.
But she certainly has discovered the photographer she likes best.

At a 1993 photo exhibition here, Marina, 41, had arrived to
promote her book Eyes On ASEAN, and that's where she met Tara.

He was among organizers of the event which exhibited 120 works
of 65 ASEAN photographers. Marina, mother to 10-year-old Ineza
Melanie Mahathir Rousille, a daughter from her first husband who
was French, is also a columnist. (ylt)
