Guess What? Jaya Suprana
Medicinal-herb baron Jaya Suprana raised his hands and inserted both of his thumbs between his index and middle fingers. He said the sign had a double meaning.
"What do you think? I don't mean to show anything nasty. But it depends on what you think." He said that he was very proud of the sign, and that it was a symbol of strength.
However, most Indonesians believe that it also depicts male- female intimacy.
Jaya, the owner of medicinal herbmaker, PT Jamu Cap Jago in Semarang, Central Java, was asked to comment on various TV ads considered "indecent". The advertised goods ranged from food supplements to medicinal herbs.
He said the advertisements could be construed as very suggestive. He admitted that many medicinal herbs were made to improve sexual performance.
Jamu Cap Jago produces some 125 items; 35 percent of them are designed to boost sexual performance, he said.
"But don't think that every advertisement is nasty," said Jaya who is also known as a humorist, pianist, and a dozen other titles. (icn)
