Guess What? Djisman Simanjuntak

Have you ever heard Djisman Simanjuntak talk about press freedom?

Probably not.

Simanjuntak is the executive director of the Prasetiya Mulya Graduate School of Management and he is popular for his sharp analysis in the field of economics. Therefore, it was quite surprising when he talked about the freedom of the press on Friday afternoon.

He did not mean to have a lengthy discussion about the topic. But he mentioned it in a prologue for the launching of The Eksekutif Interview in conjunction with the 16th anniversary of Eksekutif magazine.

The media must have incredible ability in order to be able to maintain the balance between responsibility and freedom because the definition of a free and responsible press is not clear, he said.

"Eksekutif has been successful in maintaining the balancing as it has survived to reach its 16th anniversary."

In another part of his speech, he underlined the need for creativity in any business.

"Unfortunately, creative people are often called kurang ajar (impolite) because people adore conformity and harmony. They do not like divergence." (sim)
