Guard killed in brothel

JAKARTA (JP): A brothel patron stabbed a security guard yesterday in a fight in the Kalijodo red-light district in Penjaringan, North Jakarta.

North Jakarta Police Chief Lt. Col. Rismawan said the victim, Armand, aged 24, who was fighting with another visitor in front of a bar, was approached by the suspect, Awiludin Daeng, 21.

Rismawan did not say what caused Armand's fight with the first man.

"Armand, who thought Awiludin was his opponent's friend, punched him," Rismawan said.

This made Awiludin angry. Awiludin then stabbed the victim with a sickle in the chest, Rismawan, quoting eye witnesses, said. "The suspect escaped as the victim fell."

Eyewitnesses said Awiludin had intended to break up the fight.

Local residents rushed Armand to the Atmajaya hospital, in North Jakarta, where he died.

The suspect was arrested in the Kalijodo complex three hours after the incident. (jun)
