Guard burns to death

JAKARTA (JP): A security guard of PT Sarana Sentosa burned to death at the private gasoline distribution firm's truck pool in Cakung, North Jakarta, on Sunday.

According to local fireman Eko Setyanto, Subroto, 50, was trapped in a small room he used to take naps at Jl. Tipar. The fire began at about 11:30 a.m.

"The victim tried to save himself by getting into a drum full of water. But the fire still burned him."

Eko said the explosion of a gas stove was believed to have started the fire.

It apparently ignited an oil-filled drum and spread quickly.

Subroto was still wearing his sarong when the fire occurred, Eko said.

Firefighters in five fire engines extinguished the fire in half an hour, he said. (jun)
