Groups accused of rebel

JAYAPURA, Irian Jaya: Local military commander Maj. Gen. Amir
Sembiring said Monday that certain groups in the province had
been trying to disrupt the order in the province.

"However, their efforts are not successful yet," he said in a
speech to commemorate the 47th anniversary of the Irian Jaya
Military Command here on Monday.

He pointed out that the groups had also been campaigning for a
Free Papua movement.

He also called on the people in the province to stay alert and
not to be easily provoked by the rumors spread by the groups.

Provincial administration officials and military leaders were
present in the anniversary celebration.
