Group wants TV censorship
JAKARTA: The Forum of Muslims urged the government on Wednesday to take concrete action against television stations airing programs that contain obscenity, mysticism, or violence.
Azrul Tanjung, the forum's deputy secretary-general, said that the government and the House of Representatives had so far made an appeal only to the stations.
Members of the forum would seek a meeting with House leaders next week to put pressure on legislators.
The House proposed bills on pornography and obscenity in the 1999-2004 period, but failed to finish its deliberation.
Prominent dangdut singer Rhoma Irama, Muslim clerics Zainuddin MZ, Nur Iskandar, Salahuddin Wahid, and many others will join the meeting at the House. -- Antara
