Greenpeace to hold conference in Aceh

JAKARTA: Greenpeace, along with other international and national aid and environmental non-governmental organizations (NGOs), plans to organize a conference on "Good environmental practices for reconstruction in tsunami and earthquake affected areas."

A press release issued on Friday said that the conference will be held on June 21-23 in Banda Aceh, the capital of tsunami-hit Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam. An exhibition promoting a range of environmentally friendly initiatives and schemes for reconstruction will also be held in parallel with the conference.

Greenpeace called on funding agencies to support green initiatives in reconstruction to help ensure that the health of the environment is protected through the efforts of environmental and aid organizations and local communities. -- JP
