Great book sale planned in Yogya

YOGYAKARTA: As many as 50 publishers will next month hold an event, the Great Book Sale, for a month in Yogyakarta in cooperation with Togas Mas book shops in Java.

The program, due to start early in September, is aimed at offering cheap books to low-income people as part of celebrating Indonesia's 58th Independence Day.

Member of the Great Book Sale committee Arif said the fair was aimed at campaigning for cheap books in the country.

"We shall take only a small profit from selling the books. We shall offer a discounts of 40 percent to 60 percent on book prices," he said.

The plan was initiated to counter the impression that only middle- and high-income people could afford books due to their high price in the market.--JP
