Gramedia gets support from Nikon

JAKARTA (JP): Nikon, one of the world's largest camera producers, has sent a senior executive and two technicians from Singapore to service at no charge Nikon cameras, lenses and accessories owned by employees of Gramedia publishing company.

"Gramedia is home to the largest population of Nikon users in this country," said Randy Masengi, marketing manager of PT Alta Samaraya, the sole Nikon authorized distributor in the country.

"So, this is the way we show our sincere gratitude to Nikon- minded photographers, journalists and employees of several media publications under the umbrella of Gramedia," he told The Jakarta Post on Monday, the first day of the three-day service at Bentara Budaya cultural center opposite the Kompas building on Jl. Palmerah Selatan in Central Jakarta.

According to Nobuyoshi Gokyu, Nikon's director and general manager for Asia and the Middle East, the free service to Gramedia is the first one ever held in Indonesia by Nikon technicians from overseas.

In addition to the service, Nikon representatives would also meet with media executives to introduce the new SLR digital Nikon camera, the D1.

"The price is somewhere around US$5,000 each," Gokyu said. (bsr)
