Govt warns of natural disasters
JAKARTA: The government has warned of natural disasters in
Greater Jakarta, Lampung, Java, Bali and Nusa Tenggara over the
next week.
An official from the Office of the State Minister for the
Environment, Paulus A Winarso, said on Tuesday that based on
satellite images, flooding would occur in Greater Jakarta between
Feb. 11 and Feb. 17 due to increased and continuing rainfall.
Areas in Lampung, Java, Bali and Nusa Tenggara also could
experience natural disasters because of the combination of high
winds, rain and thunder, he said in a statement.
Paulus did not specify the types of natural disaster expected
in those areas.
He said bad weather was also expected in southern Kalimantan,
South and Southeast Sulawesi, and Papua over the next week. -- JP
