Govt warns of natural disasters

JAKARTA: The government has warned of natural disasters in Greater Jakarta, Lampung, Java, Bali and Nusa Tenggara over the next week.

An official from the Office of the State Minister for the Environment, Paulus A Winarso, said on Tuesday that based on satellite images, flooding would occur in Greater Jakarta between Feb. 11 and Feb. 17 due to increased and continuing rainfall.

Areas in Lampung, Java, Bali and Nusa Tenggara also could experience natural disasters because of the combination of high winds, rain and thunder, he said in a statement.

Paulus did not specify the types of natural disaster expected in those areas.

He said bad weather was also expected in southern Kalimantan, South and Southeast Sulawesi, and Papua over the next week. -- JP
