Govt vows maximum workers protection

MATARAM, West Nusa Tenggara: Minister of Manpower and Transmigration Jacob Nuwa Wea said on Sunday the government was one step closer to protecting migrant workers, as it expected to deliberate the bill on workers protection with the House of Representatives in late July.

He said the bill would provide "maximum protection" to overseas migrant workers soon after it was endorsed by the House.

"President Megawati Soekarnoputri has appointed myself as the government's representative in the deliberation. We hope that it will be endorsed quickly, as it was proposed by the House," Nuwa Wea told reporters. -- Antara
