The Trade Ministry recently disbursed Rp 66 billion to fund the country's international export promotions.

The fund, said to be channeled through the National Export Development Agency (BPEN), would be used in the ministry's trade exhibitions at home and abroad, which includes an expo in Paris, France.

"The activity is to boost our exports, especially at times of crisis like we're now facing," BPEN chairman Bahrul Chairi said, as reported by Tempointeraktif.com

According to Bahrul, the country's recent trade promotion have successfully gathered no less than US$ 10 billion.

"That amount is not inclusive of that received from post-exhibition promotions," he said, adding that he was confident of the country's main selling point in natural resources.

Nevertheless, more attention needed to be paid in product design, Bahrul said.

"We need to move away from mass-production mentality and pay more attention to design details," he said. "That's how we can boost our exports." (amr)
