Govt raises prices of all fuel products

Fitri Wulandari, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta

After lowering fuel prices in September, state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina announced on Monday that it would be increasing fuel prices in October.

In a media release Pertamina said that the increases would apply to all fuel products and would be effective from Tuesday.

The price for premium gasoline for October is increased to its ceiling price of Rp 1,750 per liter, up from Rp 1,690 per liter in the previous month (although based on Mid Oil Plats Singapore the price should be Rp 1,780).

The government subsidizes a proportion of domestic fuel prices.

Pertamina said that although the exchange rate of the rupiah against the U.S. dollar had strengthened to an average of Rp 8,916 last month, the company had to raise fuel prices at home by 7 percent to 11.9 percent because of higher oil prices in neighboring Singapore.

Indonesia imports part of its crude oil supply for fuel production.

Pertamina and the government have been setting the price of fuel products each month based on price developments in Singapore.

Meanwhile, the price of automotive diesel at gas stations has been raised for two consecutive months to Rp 1,440 per liter, from Rp 1,360 in September.

The price of kerosene for household use, however, remains unchanged, at Rp 600 per liter.

The following is the October price list for fuel products for public and industrial use, except use by the mining sector.
