Govt raises payments for teachers

TANGERANG: The Tangerang municipality has raised income
supplements for school principals, teachers and administrators by
as much as much as Rp 25,000 (US$2.8) from the amount given last
year.

Tangerang education agency head Zainudin said the money would
be disbursed every three months. The first payment will be in
April, he added.

In the new policy, the school principal will receive Rp
170,000 a month, a teacher will receive Rp 140,000, while school
administrators would receive Rp 110,000.

Last year, the amount of the supplement rose to Rp 145,000, Rp
115,000 and Rp 85,000 respectively.

"The administration allocated Rp 28 billion from the budget to
pay the supplements for a total of 19,480 recipients," Zainudin
said.

"We are concerned about increasing teachers' welfare," he
