Govt proposes bus fare increase

JAKARTA: The government will allow bus operators to increase
fares over the Idul Fitri holidays.

Minister of Transportation Agum Gumelar said a proposed
ceiling system would be easier to control than the previous
system of a new tariff for Idul Fitri.

The minister said the ceiling system would first be debated by
the House of Representatives before it was implemented by the end
of the month.

The government would apply the new ceiling one week before
Idul Fitri, which should fall on Dec. 6, and one week after.

Millions of people are expected to travel domestically to
celebrate Idul Fitri.

To prevent terror attacks, the minister said the government
would also tighten security along the highways most used by Idul
Fitri travelers. -- Antara
