Govt planning to inject genitals

JAKARTA: The government is intensifying its campaign for men's participation in the national family planning program by offering contraceptive through injections.

National Family Planning Board head Yaumil Agoes Achir told the House of Representatives on Monday that the method was undergoing feasibility tests at the University of Indonesia in Jakarta and at Sriwijaya University in Palembang before its application next year.

The injection, into a man's genitals, will cause men to be infertile for two months.

"The injected contraceptive will not harm masculinity," Yaumil told the hearing.

She expressed concern that of the 25.5 million couples registered as of July this year, men accounted for only 1.17 percent of contraceptive users. Most men used condoms. -- Antara
