Govt needs help on drop-out students

BOGOR: Bogor Mayor Iswara Natanegara expressed his hope residents would cooperate with the administration's program to help students who dropped out of school due to financial constraints, Antara reported on Friday.

"It is important for the residents to realize that the program needs more support to continue, so that what we have achieved so far still can be developed," the mayor said.

Deden Muhadi, head of committee of the Movement of People Care Education (GMPP), said that the organization had collected enough funds to give six-month scholarships to 24 impoverished students. Each student would receive Rp 25,000 (US$2.9) per month, he said.

"But we still need more funds for 16 other students," he said. -- JP
