Govt must maintain law and order

The government, through its ministers, has time and again issued appeals, warnings and threats to the people to restrain themselves and avoid actions which violate the law like arson, looting, robbery, murder and rape. That there have been victims has been made possible by the power play of groups or certain people who are unable to accept change for fear of endangering their ill-gotten wealth and power.

The government is faced with many problems that need immediate attention and solutions -- to provide basic necessities that are affordable, to provide jobs to millions of jobless people.

Crime is increasing at an alarming rate. Armed robberies take place during daylight, accompanied by murder. Hijacking of trucks loaded with food has become a common crime.

Unless the government takes firm measures to maintain law and order the situation will go from bad to worse. This disorderly situation cannot continue. I think it would be quite wrong for the government to consider proclaiming an emergency situation. Instead, law enforcing agencies can take firm steps and action against bandits and hooligans. In certain cases, shooting should be allowed just to set an example and frighten hooligans.

For the time being outdoor demonstrations should be banned. But political activities (held indoors involving a certain number of people) should be allowed.
