Govt moves to solve street vendor issue

BOGOR: Bogor city secretary Deddy S Hamdan has expressed a
hope that the administration could find the best possible
solution to dealing with sidewalk vendors, as it had established
a joint committee to draw up a policy on the issue.

"The solution should not be detrimental to sidewalk vendors,
as they provide an alternative against unemployment, but on the
other hand, residents have the right to a comfort, orderly and
clean city," he was quoted by Antara on Saturday.

The committee was set up over the weekend in a public meeting
discussing problems related to sidewalk vendors that had
contributed to traffic congestion.

Didi Chosidin, who represented the media at the meeting, has
been selected as the committee chairman. -- JP
